CP-33 Monitoring News and Updates
Phase II CP-33 Monitoring is Underway!
In early 2009, Mississippi State University received a MSCG Grant to continue coordination of breeding season CP-33 monitoring in 14 states through 2011. Coordinated monitoring includes participation from 9 state agencies, 3 NGO's, and 4 universities- a massive effort! 2009 and 2010 breeding season CP33 monitoring is complete and data analysis is currently underway. Check back soon for 2009 and 2010 annual reports from CP33 monitoring.
Land-cover Classification around Survey Points
The CP-33 Monitoring Program team has received a grant from the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) to conduct on-screen digitizing of land-cover classes at 1.5 km buffers around all surveyed CP-33 and control fields in the 14 participating states. The team is using photo-interpretation of 2006/2007 NAIP imagery in combination with NLCD data to assign land-cover attributes around each survey point. Land cover classifications are complete and data is currently being used in conjunction with bird abundance data to address questions of effects of surrounding landscape composition on response of the upland bird community to CP-33 establishment.
